Judy Rothman Rofé is a screenwriter, producer, lyricist, author, mother, grandmother, traveler, and former blogger and covidologist (don’t ask). She wrote and produced over 1,000 episodes of television for children, and won an Emmy for Madeline. She started her career at Sesame Street; wrote the screenplay adaptation for E.B. White’s Trumpet of the Swan; produced the animated Angelina Ballerina, co-created Julie’s Greenroom for Netflix with Julie Andrews; and served as story consultant for very complicated stories on Nickelodeon’s Tiny Chef. She won two Humanitas prizes and was nominated for seven additional Emmys, which she lost graciously because it’s a great honor just to be nominated. She’s also the author of angst-ridden nonfiction for adults, the bestselling satiric guidebook The Neurotic Parents Guide to College Admissions, as well as the almost-famous Semi-Retired Neurotic Substack. She grew up in Brooklyn before it was cool, and taught ESL in Mexico and Venezuela before it was dangerous. She currently travels the world as a groupie with her husband’s band, The Los Angeles Philharmonic. She is a long-time member of a Santa Monica book club, but none of the characters or events in her new online series Book Club Drama are based on her group.
