Word nerd Nina Malkin is a journalist, novelist, lyricist, poet, and toonsta (i.e., cartoonist). She began her career as a copywriter at Mademoiselle in the late 1980s and contributed to numerous magazines, newspapers, and websites in the ensuing decades, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Vogue, and Entertainment Weekly, writing about the arts, lifestyles, wellness, and relationships. She’s also the author of several novels, including Swoon (Simon & Schuster/Pulse), and the memoir An Unlikely Cat Lady: Feral Adventures in the Backyard Jungle (The Lyons Press). During the pandemic, Nina started creating comics; she’s the words and pictures behind the Strat the Cat series of graphic novels (think: Bojack Horseman meets Dr. Seuss), available for free on Webtoons.
