PROVOKEDmagazine: For women who are nowhere near done.

Nina Malkin

Word nerd Nina Malkin is a journalist, novelist, lyricist, poet, and toonsta (i.e., cartoonist). She began her career as a copywriter at Mademoiselle in the late 1980s and went on to contribute to numerous magazines, newspapers, and websites, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Vogue, and Entertainment Weekly, writing about the arts, lifestyle, wellness, and relationships. She’s also the author of several novels, including Swoon (Simon & Schuster/Pulse), and the memoir An Unlikely Cat Lady: Feral Adventures in the Backyard Jungle (The Lyons Press). During the pandemic, Nina began creating comics and is the writer and illustrator behind the Strat the Cat series of graphic novels (think Bojack Horseman meets Dr. Seuss), available for free on Webtoons. A native Brooklynite, she embraces a “love all, fear none” ethos—and hopes you do, too.
